Growth of container transportations on the Russian Railways in 2012
In 2012, the Russian Railways transported 2970.6 thousand TEU of loaded and empty intermodal containers, which is 9.4% more than in the previous year. The volume of cargo transportation in intermodal containers was 27.4 million tons, 7.6% up from 2011.
In 2012, there were transported 1978.2 thousand loaded containers, including:
chemicals and soda - 302.1 thousand TEU (+13.8% compared with 2011);
cars - 258.1 thousand TEU (+20.7%);
paper - 233.5 thousand TEU (-1.7%);
wire products - 162.6 thousand TEU (+11.2%);
consumer products - 135.4 thousand TEU (+12.8%);
machines and equipment - 128.3 thousand TEU (+6.3%);
timber - 110.7 thousand TEU (+11.6%);
food products - 101 thousand TEU (+0.9%);
non-ferrous metals - 98.8 thousand TEU (+4.6%);
ferrous metals - 80.7 thousand TEU (+2.9%);
other cargoes (including consolidated cargoes) - 65.5 thousand TEU (+25.8%).
