Cargo transportation by the Russian Railways in October 2012
In October 2012, the Russian Railways’ network loaded 111.2 m tons of freight, 1.3% more than during October 2011.
Freight turnover in October 2012 increased to 187.9 bn tariff ton-kilometres, up 2.2% compared to October 2011. Freight turnover counting empty wagon runs during the same month rose 0.2% to 233.8 bn ton-kilometres.
According to the latest figures, loading in January-October 2012 amounted to 1,064.1 m tons, 3.2% more than in the same period last year.
The railways shipped the following freight (figures in brackets show the change compared to January-October 2011):
coal – 253,3 m tons (+4%);
coke – 10,7 m tons (-2,6%);
oil and petroleum products – 212,7 m tons (+2,8%);
iron and manganese ores – 91,5 m tons (-0.9%);
ferrous metals – 61,6 m tons (+0.1%);
ferrous metal scrap – 15,4 m tons (-10.9%);
chemical and mineral fertilizers – 37,5 m tons (-2.5%);
cement – 30,9 m tons (+2.9%);
timber – 30,7 m tons (-10.7%);
grain and milled products – 17,1 m tons (+12%);
construction materials – 156 m tons (+17.5%);
non-ferrous ores and sulphur feedstock – 18,8 m tons (-7%);
chemicals and soda – 23,3 m tons (-3%);
industrial raw materials and moulded materials – 30,3 m tons (+10.2%).
Freight turnover since the beginning of 2012 amounted to 1,846.5 bn tariff ton-kilometres, an increase of 5.1%, while freight turnover including empty wagon runs rose by 3.6% to 2,312.7 bn ton-kilometres.
